Why do we celebrate Father’s Day?
Father’s
day is celebrated to honor the fatherhood and male parents, by showing
gratitude towards them. It makes them realize their contribution in child’s
birth and lives. Currently, it is celebrated in almost all countries but the
dates are distinct.
It
is known that the Father’s day was first celebrated in the United States during
June 1910. A lady named Sonora Smart Todd decided to start it after she saw the
mother’s day in West Virginia. On this day, the fathers or father icons are
treated specially to tell them how special they are for their children.
Apart
from its modern reference, Father’s day may have originated to worship the
pagan sun, who is considered the father of this universe. Some people also
think of it as Saint Joseph's birthday. The name of the occasion and the date
varies from country to country but intend remains same. Many countries have
announced public holiday to celebrate father’s day.
