Why do we celebrate Friendship Day?
Friendship
is the special bond among two or more people which needs no words to describe.
Paraguay, a South American country, proposed the term friendship day to
celebrate this lovely relationship in 1958, for the first time in world’s
history.
Wristbands,
greetings, cards and gifts are exchanged among the people to show their love
towards the friends. This day was originally thought out by Joyce Hall who owns
a Cards Creation Company. Friendship day is a commercially created occasion to
let the people celebrate their special bond to increase the sales of gifts and
bands. Due to this cause, it has faced major opposition in the USA and some
other countries.
Later
in 1958, it was re-introduced by Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho while celebrating
with his friends in Paraguay. There are different dates or weekdays are decided
for this commemoration.
In
1998, Nane Annan – the wife of Kofi Annan, has made Winnie the Pooh, a Disney
character, the Ambassador of Friendship in UN countries.
